Arvind Kejriwal may have been at loggerheads with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre most of the times, but
Haryana's BJP government has invited him to the golden jubilee celebrations of the state's foundation day at Gurugram on November 1. Modi will be the chief guest, while
Kejriwal has been given the invitation for having his roots in Bhiwani district.
"We may have political differences with Kejriwal, but he has added to the esteem of the state by becoming a chief minister outside Haryana," says a Haryana BJP leader. Kejriwal, who is a known bete-noire of Modi, hails from Siwani town of Bhiwani district.
Haryana AAP chief Naveen Jaihind said there was nothing unusual in inviting Kejriwal to the function. "The Haryana government has sent an invitation to Kejriwal like other chief ministers or Union ministers," said Jaihind.
Former Haryana chief minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has also been invited. The state government has sent invitation letters to Bollywood actors like Randeep Hooda and Meghna Malik also, and Union ministers Sushma Swaraj and General V K Singh (retd).
Haryana BJP spokesperson Jawahar Yadav said the government had invited all Haryanvis who have added to the esteem of the state.
Sources said actor Om Puri has confirmed his presence for the function. The event will have guests from countries like Rwanda, Ghana and Mauritius with embassies of these countries confirming their participation. The state government has sent invitations to the embassies of about 50 countries.
To mark 50 years of inception of the state, Haryana government is going to organize a mega event, 'Bemisaal Haryana', at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurugram on November 1. The state will organize different functions across the state from November 1, 2016, to October 31, 2017, in a befitting manner.
Earlier, the state government had formed a jumbo committee comprising 141 members to celebrate golden jubilee year of the state.
AAP plans to gift Modi a cow
To invite attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issues related to stray cattle, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers headed by state president Naveen Jaihind will try to gift a cow to Narendra Modi in Gurugram on November 1. "Modi is 'gau bhakt', so we will be gifting him the cow," said Jaihind. "In the absence of adequate arrangements on the part of state government, cows are forced to eat polythene and are leading to accidents," he added. However, the state government has been claiming that it was making all efforts to protect cows by initiating the process to set up five cow sanctuaries amd 426 cow shelters in the state.
